A Good Skydiving Helmet

In the world of skydiving, there are several pieces in the equipment puzzle that are considered essential, even crucial. This is certainly the case in most extreme sports and in some where the element of risk is part of the allure. When skydivers purchase skydiving equipment, they invariably include a good helmet, primarily to protect the head if something goes wrong (but also for general protection during the jump).

Which Style Fits You Best?

First-time purchasers may choose from a variety of styles. It might be wise for the student or learning skydiver to talk at length with expert amateurs and professionals, to get some ideas about the best helmets. Personal taste and opinion will always have some bearing on these skydiving equipment decisions, but no one should try to save a few dollars and sacrifice comfort or safety.

The basic choice, and among the least expensive, is the open face helmet with a simple strap for the chin. A separate pair of goggles protect the eyes from the wind during the dive. These fundamental helmets come in various colors and are often the helmet provided during school and training.

Some skydivers add a full-face helmet to their skydiving equipment bag. These models have a moulded chin guard as part of their design. They also have a visor that takes the place of the separate goggles mentioned earlier. Many skydivers find this type of helmet more comfortable. They also enjoy better viewing because there are no goggle frames or edges to obstruct the view. Those who wear eyeglasses may find this type of helmet ideal.

Filming The Jump

Most beginning skydivers don’t include a video camera in their equipment because they rely on the skydiving school or instructor to provide video record of their activity. But some who stick with this exciting sport eventually invest in a helmet with built in camera. Almost any camera of reasonable size can be accommodated. Some skydivers attach a camera to a standard helmet using specially designed brackets. The appearance is more bulky than a camera helmet but the results are usually very good.

Some skydivers include headgear that is little more than a leather cover for the head that holds hair down. But these are not recommended, as they provide no protection for the head during or at the end of the jump. A good helmet worn during a skydive can literally be the difference between life and death.

Whether or not to have children is the decision that requires more forethought than any other decision you could possible make. Unfortunately, far too many people leave this decision up to chance, or up to the hormones that drive their “biological clocks” rather than taking time to realize all the of the implications having a child will have on their lives.

Having a child does not only affect the would-be parent. It affects the parent’s family, society, and of course, the future child him/herself. When considering having a child, you need to think about many different factors first.

Are you capable of raising a child? Not just having a child (most people are very capable of doing that) but raising one. Do you have the financial and emotional resources to help your infant grow into a happy, healthy, productive member of society?

Finances

Will you have to go on welfare if you have a child? Your decision to have a child should not be draining public funds that are desperately needed for other things, so you had better make sure you can afford the things that children need before you conceive. Don’t just think about diapers and formula, think farther down the road to things like sports equipment and school supplies. Remember that children will also want toys, and constantly pester you for the latest gizmos, and you will feel guilty if you are unable to provide at least some of those things. You need to be able to leave room in your budget for those little extras.

Emotional Stability

Is your relationship with the other parent of this potential baby stable and secure? Or will your child grow up watching you fighting, or being disrespected or abused by your mate? Remember, children grow up thinking of their home life as “normal,” so if your mate does not treat you properly, your child will grow up thinking disrespect and heartache are an acceptable part of a relationship. If you or your partner have anger issues that may cause you to lose your patience with a child, you need to get help for those issues before going ahead. You don’t have to hit a child to be an abusive parent, and those who say hateful things in the heat of the moment need to change that behaviour before attempting to become a parent.

Effort

Are you willing to put in time and effort to teach your child to be a responsible adult? It is not the job of the public education system to teach your child manners. As a parent there are things you need to teach your child about how to treat others and how to make

important decisions. If you’re not willing to engage your child in conversation or teach them how to read because “that’s the school’s job,” please, don’t have children. Children require intellectual stimulation from their parents, not an educational void until the age of five or six. Also, children will imitate you, whether you want them to or not. If you approach areas of your life, especially parenting, as though just getting by is enough (for example; not helping with homework or caring if your child is learning) then your children will believe that they, too, should coast through life. All this does is put more future adults into the welfare system to be a burden on others.

Experience

It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who have no experience with children whatsoever before actually having children. Would you take a car on the highway without having been inside one before? Would you skydive without training and lessons? Why would you assume the care and responsibility of a helpless little person who will look to you for guidance on every aspect of life if you’ve never dealt with children of various ages before? Not everyone babysits or takes a job as a camp counsellor as a teen, but you can always volunteer to help coach a local sports team, or to read to children at the library, or ask people you know who have children to let you babysit so you can “practice” your childcare skills. Children are demanding and exasperating, not because they mean to be (well, most of the time!) but because they have not reached an emotional level where they are capable of realizing that other people have needs, too. If you have no experience dealing with a range of childhood behaviours, you will find yourself stressed, losing your temper, and perhaps saying or doing things you will regret later. Don’t have a child without a range of hands-on experiences!

Although there are other things to consider when thinking about having child, such as which diseases run in your or your mate’s families, and whether you would be capable of parenting a child that ended up with a chronic illness or disability, the above things should be considered first. Parenting a child without any special needs is challenging enough, and if you decide you can’t realistically handle the above considerations, then you don’t need to think further about any special considerations. Once you’ve decided that, yes, you are ready to handle the job of parenting, please move on to consider trickier decisions like a child with special needs or adoption. Having a child is a beautiful and special experience, but as any parent will tell you, it’s the hardest job in the world. So don’t file that application until you’ve decided you can handle it!

So here’s the scenario…you’ve just done your first tandem skydive. You feel amazing. You can’t think of anything you’d rather do. What next? More skydiving of course. And lots of training. Then finally – you go solo! But wait, you keep seeing these guys walking around in colour coo-ordinated suits, Cool looking helmets and lots of cool gadgets, looking all flash, while you were stuck in a big generic set of overalls, an ugly looking leather hat and had no gizmos!! There’s only one solution. Buy your own skydiving equipment. Now, we’re not talking about your own skydive plane of course. That would be just a bit too radical. And you don’t need to buy your own parachute system just yet.

But if you’re going to be living, breathing and eating skydiving until you’re old and wrinkly, you might want your own jumpsuit as well as a few other bits and pieces. If you have your own stuff, you can have the colour you want, and all the accessories. Plus everything fits properly. So what equipment does a skydiver need?

Glad you asked. First and foremost, let’s talk about your jumpsuit. This will all be about personal preference. Colour, style, fit and cost. You also need to consider the modern skydiving environment that covers multiple disciplines, Belly Flying (Also known as Formation Skydiving (FS), or relative Work (RW) ) Freeflying, sometimes referred to as vertical formation skydiving (VFS) (where you fly on all axis, Back , head, feet and belly) or Canopy piloting (either swooping or canopy relative work). All these disciplines have their own specialized suits, but a good all rounder is a Freefly Suit, as long as it has some sort of grippers on it. But the most important thing to remember is this: you are going to be using this stuff for a long time, so it’s a good idea to choose the best you can afford. Your jumpsuit can play also play a big part in your fall rate. You need to choose the right suit for your size and your experience. Keep versatility in mind and you’ll save a wad of money. If you choose a suit that will do a few different jobs – or even a jacket and pants combo – then you’ll be keeping your options open and keeping some money in your wallet. If it’s hot out there, the combo means you can wear a tee shirt instead of a jacket on hot days. Up to you.Quality skydiving equipment means quality design, materials and construction. You don’t want your gear ripping apart at the wrong moment.

Other than a suit You need a helmet (which in the early stages must be an open face helmet, but later can be a full face), an altimeter which can be wrist or chest mounted or an audible one that can be fitted inside your helmet, goggles/ eyewear (seriously consider ones with UV filters) to keep the wind out of your eyes…NOTE skydiving without goggles/glasses is not a good idea, as you can see very little in 120mph winds with your naked eyes! A log book, is essential for recording all of your skydiving expolits and providing a record of your accomplishments that you can take from place to place to proove your skill level and a Gear Bag to carry all of your bits and pieces in is essential (make sure you buy one that is large enough to hold a container for when you do end up getting your own. Finally, more so as we become entrnched in a digital/social media age, you probably want to consider a robust camera and laptop so you can share all of your skydiving experiences with your friends and family straight away, get one that is waterproof and small (like a Go Pro). Once again, it’s a good idea to get the best you can afford. Most skydivers end up on the ground at some stage, so you want to avoid as many bruises, scratches and broken equipment as possible.

Happy skydiving!

New Zealand is the youngest country on earth, it was the last major landmass to be discovered. Its history has both Maori and European heritage. There are still amazing Maori historic sites to be found some dating back almost a thousand years.

When I visited New Zealand in July I decided to take an organised tour as I had limited time. I travelled with a group of other like minded travellers and we were transported around on a bus with two tour leaders who gave us loads of information along the way. They organised my accommodation and recommended tours to go on in each place we visited. Also most meals were included.

The Advantages on taking a Connections Tour
* It took hassle out of having to navigate and plan the trip.
* You travelled with like minded travellers.
* Were recommended sights you might have missed.
* You travelled in comfortable buses which were very clean
* Stayed in great accommodation and you didn’t have the hassle of booking and choosing yourself.
* Gave you budget activities to do during the day sometimes even free things for example the best walks to do in an area.
* They explained activities thoroughly to us and quite often had done them themselves. The leaders gave us honest and frank accounts.

Disadvantages of the Connections Tour
* Some of the other passengers were rowdy.
* It was geared towards people who wanted to do extreme activities for example skydiving, kayaking, bungy jumps etc. As I am not into these activities it was boring having to listen about them.
* The additional activities were quite expensive.
* As I am a fussy eater I didn’t like most of the meals they had made and had to go buy more food even though I had prepaid for the meals.
* There are long bus journeys however this is to be expected.
* There are very early starts in the morning!
* Had ‘introductions’ were you had to stand up in front of the bus and talk about yourself. As I’m shy I hated this. You didn’t have to but felt very awkward if you didn’t. Travellers who you are travelling with are constantly jumping on and off the bus and finishing at different stages. This meant more introductions. So you had to do it more than once.
* Had to pay extra to not be in share accommodation.

The North Island of New Zealand (115,000sq km) and this is where we arrived at. Our tour started in Auckland which is a cosmopolitan city. We met the bus outside Base Backpackers hostel where we were staying it is very central and clean. We were greeted by 2 friendly tour guides who took our bags and asked us questions on what we liked to eat.

BAY OF ISLANDS

The Waitangi Motel is where we stayed in Paihia. The motel had a massive living area with separate bedroom, bathroom and living space.

Here you can swim with dolphins. We did not do this option however were glad as the group didn’t actually get to swim with them as the pod had their babies with them so it would have been dangerous. There is also a boat ride which you can take called ‘Hole in a Rock’ adventure at NZ pp.

With 144 islands and bays we decided to go to Russell Island. Russell Island was the first/capital island of New Zealand. We walked to the pier which is about a 10 minute walk from the motel and went to Russell Island by the fast (red) ferry which cost NZ .00pp.

We went for a walk to the ‘long beach’ which was nice. Then walked up the mountain to see 360 degree views of the Bay of Island this was worth while however it is a very steep walk up! As the fast ferry was very choppy we decided to take the slower (blue and white) ferry back as we were in no rush and it was of similar price.

Along the way to Rotorua we stopped in Auckland for an hour of free time. Included in our tour was the Sky Tower which was a nice experience there is glass flooring so you can see to the bottom of the tower. It’s not for people who are afraid of heights. Next stop was Hobbiton which there wasn’t much to do except take tours of the area where they filmed Lord of the Rings. There is a statue of Gollum which you can get your photograph taken with.

ROTORUA

The town smells of eggs! We stayed in the Alphin Motel which had a hot tub and you got to fill it up with water heated by the ground. This was very relaxing, even though it was freezing outside we still could enjoy this hot tub and what surprised me was that I wasn’t cold at all.

We took a tour called the Te-Kiri Trek Tour where one of the locals took us on a 4WD and showed us the sights. It cost NZ pp and was well worth it! First up we got to see how a local heated their house using the thermal water from underground and how the cooked outside.

Next was a Maori city hall and we got to see inside a church. We were taken to the top of Rainbow mountain and seen breathtaking views. He took us further than the sign said we were supposed to and the tour guide joked that he couldn’t read. This was a very bumpy ride however you never were in any danger. He then took us into the forest and we seen a lime green lake which was because of the sulphur.

We went to mud pools which were big craters in the ground which bubbled, steam was everywhere to be seen. Also there was a massive mud pool however you couldn’t go as close to it as the mud was flying into the air every so often which was quite dangers as it can be very hot. There was a wooden barricade to stop us from going too close. The tour guide got some mud from a stick so we could touch it and it was just like the mud packs you can buy only it smelt stronger. Last of all we went to a hot river where you could go in and feel the hot pools.

From our motel we were able to walk to Whakarewarewa Thermal Village (yeah I couldn’t say the name either lol!) This was a traditional Maori village. There were mud pools, stem vents that are in the ground to stop there being an eruption which can come up anywhere. Sometimes under people’s houses so they have had to move. They can check this by using high technical technology these days. Also seen was steam/hot pools where people bathe.

Part of their culture was to bathe together and this was family time however today teenagers don’t do this as much. We seen a show where there was Maori tribe dancers which lasted about half and hour where they sang and danced using Poi’s to keep the beat, these looked like pom-poms to me. They included the audience and if you wanted to you had the chance to get up and dance with them yourself.

The bus then took us to a Geo-Thermal plant and we seen the pipes and had it explained how these were used.
Then we visited Huka Falls from the film ‘Without a Paddle’ and went for a walk.

TAUPO

Here we stayed in the SilverFern Motel and had free time. You could have did the Taupo bungy which cost solo/ tandem (NZ / 8pp). Also was the Huka Jet which is a jetboat ride which costs NZ pp. Another option was the tandem skydive 12,000ft which cost NZ 9pp.

WELLINGTON

In Wellington there is the Te Papa Museum which was free. If you do a self guided tour be sure to purchase the Te Papa Explorer NZ, this will give you information about each floor and even a suggester tour. There is a café location on the ground floor and a coffee lounge on level 4. This place was great it was very interactive with loads of different areas (Awesome Forces, Maori section, Mountains to the Sea, Golden Days, Blastback). You can see different stuffed animals. There is an earthquake simulator and you can see how they protect their buildings (steel bars). Also you can see some Maori culture. It would be great for children as it’s exciting and you could spend more than a full day in it. For more information http://www.tepapa.govt.nz

There is a vintage style cable car costing NZ .80pp. It is short ride to the top maybe 5 minutes. Once at the top you get great views however it was very windy. The cable car lane is located, (next to McDonald’s) and Upland Rd., Kelburn, Wellington.
Wind turbines and seen breathtaking views however it was extremely windy. It would be a very steep road if your walking. To get to the turbine it is in the city suburbs off Ashton Fitchett Drive, Brooklyn, Wellington.

Staglands Wildlife Reserve, Akatarawa Valley, Upper Hutt,Wellington. This is a great wee place. You can feed birds and ducks however be careful with children as a peacock flew at me and scared me lol! You must see ‘Moses’ the donkey who was comical eating the feed off the fence when he trailed his mouth over it. You are warned that he does bite though.

You can go for a walk in Wellington along the seafront which is lovely and relaxing however it was very windy when we were there.

We got the Ferry called the Interislander to Picton which (took 3 hours) costing NZ pp this takes you to the south island. We got some lovely views from the boat and it is definitely worth while on going out on to the deck at some stage, however it was very cold. For more information go to http://www.interislander.co.nz.

Sport skydiving represents the evolution of the sport in the best way possible. In sport skydiving, groups of individuals come together in various formations and patterns while they are in free-fall. Additionally, individuals on solo jumps may use props, such as jump-suits or skydiving boards, to do certain tricks and manoeuvres in the air. Sport skydiving is, without a doubt, the single most adrenaline filled sporting activity that is practised in the world today.

If you are someone who has been skydiving for a while and wants to move to the next level, there can be no alternative other than sport skydiving. Most skydiving centres offer advanced sport skydiving classes for skydivers who qualify based on the number of jumps they have performed. Additionally, most of these classes often conclude with a choreographed jump with a group or by yourself.

Ramblers is an organisation that has been around for nearly as long as the sport of skydiving itself. Dave McEvoy founded the Ramblers Parachute Centre way back in 1974. Today, the organisation is still run by Dave’s family members, all of whom have become experienced skydivers in their own right. All of the instructors at the Ramblers facility are highly experienced professionals who have performed tens of thousands of jumps between them.

Ramblers is undoubtedly the best skydiving facility in all of Australia, attracting visitors from all over the country, as well as all over the world. The Ramblers skydiving facility offers a number of different packages, such as tandem jumps, solo jumps and so on. There is also the option to have your entire skydiving experience captured on film for you to enjoy again and again, even after you leave the Ramblers facility. The drop zone is based in Toogoolawah, Queensland and offers the option to land in a number of scenic and idyllic settings. For more information about the skydiving packages and options offered by Ramblers, please visit the company website at http://www.ramblers.com.au

->Four important things to remember before skydiving;

1. Always research the establishment and its employees, being aware of any lawsuits, deaths, injuries or complaints.

2. Pay attention to skydiving news and keep track of what types of mistakes cause injuries and deaths. For example, sharp low turns cause more deaths then malfunctioning parachutes.

3. People with heart conditions and some other types of medical conditions should not skydive.

4. Assess the risk – Is it worth it?

Skydiving is a most daring yet enjoyable hobby for people of all ages. It is a much loved sport for people fond of thrills and adventure. Though it is a costly hobby, nothing comes in between for those who are madly in love with it. This sport certainly has an extra edge to it.

Skydiving is said to be very good stress reliever. When you go skydiving, your complete focus is on it and nothing else. This way you are free from other distractions of life. There is no place for worries or lost thoughts when you are skydiving. This provides you mental and physical relief. Another benefit of skydiving is that it generates confidence in you. It takes a lot of control and makes you mentally strong.

There is also a generation who ask why skydive? Are people who like skydive crazy? The answer to their question is yes, they are crazy. Crazy to feel thrill, crazy to experience powerful rush, crazy to enjoy 360 degree view while free falling from the sky (which even any helicopter or plane cannot give), and crazy to enjoy every indescribable excitement that skydiving gives. Those who love to skydive say they do it for the ecstasy, the freedom and the view.

          ]]>

However skydiving is only for people who are mentally and physically fit. If you are first time diver, then you must get training from specialised classes. Most of these skydiving classes give you on ground training for 2 to 3 days. As a first time diver you will typically want to do a tandem skydive. Tandem skydive mean there will be one professional skydiver who will dive along with you for your first time.

There are some safety rules that you should follow. Always follow the rules that your instructor gave you. Always cross check your skydiving accessories that you wear. According to a survey, most of skydiving accidents happens due to carelessness of not double checking
your accessories. Buy your skydiving accessories from a reputed manufacturer who always provide you the best quality of latest accessories.
